The following letter was sent to the Canadian Representative to the Palestinian Authority concerning the shooting of Anas Shawanreh, the son of Salim Shawamreh who is the field coordinator for ICAHD (Israeli Committee against House Demolitions). Salim works with Jeff Halper, Director of ICAHD, who shared with Canadians during his cross Canada tour in January-February 2015 the story of Salim's house being destroyed and rebuilt 6 times. Dear Ms Verrier-Frechette,
I write you with deep concern about the shooting of a Palestinian youth, Anas Shawanreh, the son of Salim Shawamreh who is the field coordinator for ICAHD (Israeli Committee against House Demolitions).
Anas is 15 years old and was coming out of a store with groceries for his mother when the IDF soldiers took him to a less populated place, beat him up and shot him in the leg twice at close range. I have had this report from Jeff Halper, coordinator of ICAHD and someone I know and trust.
The targeting of and violence against children and youth under the Israeli occupation of Palestine is an outrageous violation of human rights and one of countless acts that are illegal under international law as well as being immoral.
Canada needs to stand up against such violations of children by the IDF and to speak loudly and clearly to end the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
