2013 Activities...
The past few months have seen a flurry of activity as well as snow flurries across the country. The Unsettling Goods Campaign was launched on December 3, 2013 with a number of Days of Witness in major cities. We are grateful for the help of Dale Hildebrand who has been working for the Network to coordinate key activities and be a public voice for the Network. His employment was made possible by generous donations of members.
In the past few weeks, the Coordinating Team and Dale have been busy responding the the increased media coverage of Prime Minister Harper's visit to Israel. Letters to PM Harper and the Palestinians were sent and copies posted on the web site. A Member's Blog has been added to web site for contributions by officers and members.
2013 Annual Conference
In September 6 – 8, 2013, 33 enthusiastic and dedicated people from right across the country gathered in the lovely town and Learning Centre of Naramata, BC to attend the second national UNJPPI annual meeting and conference. Only a couple of the UC’s 11 Conferences weren't represented, and while 10 of the participants were from BC, over half were from east of Manitoba. 7 former ecumenical accompaniers were present, as were representatives of five partner organizations.
The focus of the Conference was on the upcoming Unsettling Goods Campaign and how we could be a part of it. We heard reports from attending partner organizations as we sought to build partnership. There was opportunity for workshops, films viewing and sharing experiences. As we moved through the weekend, momentum built with enthusiasm and the commitment to raise funds to engage a coordinator. See a fuller report of the 2013 Conference.
...Moving Forward -->> 2014 Conference
While the Unsettling Goods boycott campaign continues, the Coordinating Team has been looking ahead to next steps, such as a letter writing campaign to MP's. and preparing for Conference Annual Meetings.
We are also looking ahead to the next Annual Conference of the Network in the fall, probably September again. Consultations are going on for a location, probably in the east. Watch for more news soon.
