Action seeks solution for Israelis and Palestinians
Delegates at Mennonite Church Canada Assembly affirm non-violent solutions to ongoing injustice in Israel-Palestine
July 21, 2016
Dear Willard Metzger,
Executive Director of Mennonite Church Canada
wmetzger@mennonitechurch.ca
The United Network for a Just Peace in Palestine and Israel (UNJPPI), a cross-Canada network of people associated with the United Church, is thrilled to hear the good news that the Mennonite Church Canada passed a resolution in relationship to Israel/Palestine at your Assembly in Saskatoon by an overwhelming majority. We offer you our congratulations and support with respect to this issue.
We recognize the hard work you will now face in the implementation of the resolution. We also know you will receive both support and criticism - including hate-mail. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Your action is a faith-filled response to the suffering of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. It is a courageous theological stance in the face of public pressure and criticism from various sources. You have chosen to support a nonviolent means of working for a just and lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis. This is the way Jesus would want us to confront injustice—with nonviolent resistance.
If we may be of any assistance to you in this work please be in contact with us.
United in Christ,
