Unsettling Goods - by Tony Quarrington
This soda machine was made in a factory
Which stands in an old land where olive groves grew,
Made in a place where homes were ploughed under
That now is a settlement, thriving and new.
Built on a site from which people were scattered,
Driven away from their history and place,
Whose traces have vanished, whose name is deleted,
Whose story is written in each suffering face
CHORUS
Unsettling goods that are not good for all,
Made in the shadow of checkpoint and Wall,
Built with guns and with prisons, bulldozers and fists,
Justice means crossing these goods off your list
These fragrant bath salts come from the West Bank,
Come from the Dead Sea, where hopes can die too,
Where water's withheld and health care's restricted,
Where poor people toil for a shekel or two.
This is a land that is no longer holy,
Scarred by oppression and brutality,
Where homes are demolished, and rights are unequal,
Mocking the pretense of democracy.
CHORUS
This plastic toolbox was made in a region,
Where a people is daily losing its land,
Patient and steadfast, they dream about justice,
And look on with sorrow as Empire expands.
Curfews and roadblocks, barbed wire, hand grenades,
Uzzis and tear gas to keep them in line.
No room for dignity - In solidarity
We've got to show the whole world a sign.
Unsettling goods that are not good for all,
Made in the shadow of checkpoint and Wall
People of conscience must boycott these lines,
And work for a just peace in Palestine,
And work for a just peace in Palestine.
