Displacement of Jabal al-Baba
Media release for Jabal al-Baba:
In order to bring international attention to their situation, and hopefully inspire government solidarity and action, volunteers at Jabal al-Baba provide this press release about the community at Jabal al-Baba. The focus is on showcasing the real human lives of the community members here – lives in dire risk of disruption if the Israeli development plan comes to fruition.
The community at Jabal al-Baba has existed in their present location near al-Eizariyah since the 1950s following their initial displacement from the Negev Desert during the Nakba of 1948. Presently, the community consists of about 300 people, mostly children, all of whom live with the knowledge that the Israeli forces may demolish their homes and community infrastructure at any time. The kindergarten at Jabal al-Baba has already been demolished once, and dismantled a further two times, along with a women’s centre – most recently in July of 2018. Just two weeks ago, a stop working order was delivered to the community again, suggesting yet another demolition may be just around the corner.
