The International Fact-Finding Mission on Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory today published its findings on the implications Israeli settlements have upon the human rights of the Palestinian people.
The stories of the Palestinian workers in settlements is particularly important in the SodaStream boycott, which uses virtually slave labor. The Agrexco situation is also interesting, because that is a boycott that I believe Richard Falk recommended.
WhoProfits Postion Paper: Palestinian Workers in Settlements
Israeli and international companies that face criticism owing to their activities in the occupied West Bank often attempt to legitimize their businesses in settlements by claiming that they provide labor to Palestinian workers. The new Agrexco exports Palestinian produce including strawberries and flowers. The strawberry brands of the company are Orli, Sandra, Dazi and Zohar. Agrexco's strawberry brands are in high demand in Europe and are sold in leading chain stores such as the British Marks and Spancer and the Dutch Valdi. On the contrary, in April 2012, the British chain store Co-Op stopped selling settlement products and canceled its contracts with Agrexco, Mehadrin, AdaFresh and Arava, on account of their involvement in the Israeli occupation.
A UN Human Rights Council fact-finding mission on Thursday released its harshest report over Israeli policy in the West Bank since 1967, urging governments and private corporations across the world to consider economic and political sanctions against Israel over its construction in the settlements. This is the first time such a call has been made from within the United Nations.
